Spinal
Surgery
Early work with Dr Ian Macnab, one of the world’s leaders
in spinal degeneration and its treatment by decompression
and fusion, led to an early career in spinal trauma, as the
head of the adult spinal injuries unit of the Toronto
General Hospital. This also led to work in the rehabilitation of traumatic
paraplegia. After 10 years or so, the volume of knee
surgery (due to arthroscopy), was such that spinal
injuries were all referred to Dr John Kostuik, who did
such an excellent job that he later became Professor
of Surgery, and Head of Spinal Surgery at Johns
Hopkins University in Baltimore.
